The Marketing Pet Peeves That We All Secretly Share

Every marketer has at least one thing that makes them pause mid-scroll and think, “Okay… but why?” From odd content choices to overly enthusiastic emails, the world of marketing offers no shortage of tiny frustrations. And while we’re usually the ones giving advice, the Savvy Partner team couldn’t resist comparing notes.

Here are a few lighthearted, universally relatable marketing pet peeves we think the industry can laugh about and maybe learn to stay away from.

1. AI Content That Feels Like It Was Generated on Autopilot

AI can be a brilliant tool. We use it ourselves. But David, Savvy Partner’s Creative Director, pointed out something many people feel: when AI-generated content starts to replace creativity instead of supporting it, the magic gets lost.

Robot-sounding captions, uncanny-valley review videos, or posts that feel “generic” don’t inspire trust. If anything, they remind people how much they still crave a human touch.

The goal isn’t to ditch AI. It’s to use it thoughtfully, so it elevates your brand’s voice rather than flattening it.

2. Email Tactics That Try a Little Too Hard

Marketers love email. Consumers… tolerate email.

But the team couldn’t help calling out the dramatic abandoned cart reminders, the “Only 2 left!” countdown banners, and the discounts that don’t really discount anything. These tactics once worked, but audiences today see through them instantly.

Our Email Marketing specialist put it best: “If the deal isn’t actually a deal, people can tell.”

Honesty builds trust. Trust builds conversions. It’s a win for everyone.

3. Influencer Partnerships That Don’t Feel Authentic

Influencers can be powerful partners when they genuinely love the product. But when the enthusiasm feels a little too rehearsed or disconnected, audiences pick up on it fast.

Eunice noted that the difference between “real” and “forced” is clearer than ever. Authentic storytelling still wins, and brands benefit most when they choose creators who naturally align with what they offer.

Sometimes overfatigue towards an influencer can result in loss in followers. Which could also result in loss in engagement.

4. Social Media Trends That Overstay Their Welcome

The Savvy Partner team had a good laugh (and maybe a tiny eye roll) remembering some of the trends that pop up nonstop:

• Videos that begin with “WAIT WAIT WAIT DON’T SCROLL!”
• “Like for part 2!”—and then part 2 is impossible to find
• Product photos that don’t match what’s being sold
• Overly dramatic clickbait designed to rile people up

We’ve all scrolled past these. And while they may get attention in the short term, long-term trust and consistency always perform better.

5. The LinkedIn Message Avalanche

image

Nothing tests patience quite like this classic scenario: you accept a new LinkedIn connection, and within seconds your inbox turns into Times Square on New Year’s Eve. Automated messages, follow-ups, “just bumping this to the top!” nudges… all from someone you’ve never actually spoken to.

Luis and the team agreed that while networking is great, the rapid-fire outreach can feel a bit much. And Erin pointed out that as social platforms crack down on automation, people are craving more genuine, human-to-human interactions anyway.

A simple rule of thumb? If your message hits someone’s inbox before their acceptance notification even loads, it might be too soon.

What These Pet Peeves Really Teach Us

At the end of the day, these aren’t rants. They’re reminders.

People still want clarity, honesty, and authenticity. They want to engage with brands that show personality without trying too hard, communicate without overwhelming, and use tools like AI without losing their human voice.

The big takeaway? Great marketing isn’t about grabbing attention at any cost. It’s about building connections people actually want to stick around for.
